Built in the 12th century on top of a fortress in a strategic position on the Scuropasso Valley and inaugurated in 1212, during the Middle Ages the Castle of Cigognola had a defensive and traffic controlling function on the nearby Via Emilia. With the end of feudalism, it became a prestigious Renaissance court, home of the most prestigious noble families. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was transformed into an important centre for the promotion of wine; important investments in the vineyards and a cellar transformed the ancient castle into an excellent wine estate.
Several maintenance interventions have been carried out; from the restoration of the architectural elements such as battlements, wall portions, pedestrian walkways, ceilings, doors and windows, to the design of custom-made furniture (tables designed by the carpenter's shop of San Patrignano, kitchen furniture) and the arrangement of rooms such as the wine tasting room, the barrique cellar, the historical wine cellar. For the tasting room a large map has been produced that identifies the different vineyards of the company; the digital format in which it has been produced will allow a continuous update at territorial level of the vineyards of the estate.
