What: International competition for the construction of a new N16 motorway maintenance centre (award-winning project)
Who: Directorate of Public Works, Transport and Energy of the Canton of Bern
Where: Loveresse, Jura Bernese - Switzerland
When: 2013
AREA: 10.000 sq. m
AREA49: Giacomo Penco | Proginvest

The new Maintenance Centre of the Bernese Jura is organized into two structures: an "L" shaped building spread on a single floor of the South-West side of the area that includes the hardware and signage warehouse, the parking hall and a storage area and on the North side lies the second building that contains the offices and workshops. The separation of the two buildings and their respective positions allows a rational organizational layout of the various functions and the traffic movement.

The desire to minimize environmental impact led to the selection of materials that have not undergone long processing cycles (such as cement, wood, metal, glass). This is particularly obvious throughout the entire coating of the building where the decision was to refrain  from using any synthetic or metallic materials, but to use wood instead.
